The NSW Government has finalised the Trout Cod Action Plan earlier this year, following community feedback received in late 2023. The plan aims to preserve and rejuvenate Trout Cod populations in historical habitats across New South Wales, as a part of a decade-long initiative. With the action plan underway, the Monaro Acclimatisation Society is reminding the public about free information sessions run by the The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) to update stakeholders on progress.

A spokesperson for the Monaro Acclimatisation Society said the community information sessions will be held across four locations during early August.

“The DPIRD Fisheries have been working on actions under the plan and are undertaking another round of community information sessions to update you on the progress of the Action Plan,” the spokesperson said.
Participants will hear about several key topics, including the finalised Action Plan, accomplishments achieved so far, the draft Trout Cod Reintroduction Strategy, recent monitoring results, and future steps.
A spokesperson for NSW DPI said, “Over the next ten years, our goal is to re-establish viable Trout Cod populations in priority habitats across their former range in NSW that can, once again, support ecological, cultural and recreational values. We are working towards de-listing Trout Cod as a threatened species.”

The Action Plan includes various priority actions categorised into short (1-2 years), medium (2-5 years), and long-term (5-10 years) goals.
The Monaro Acclimatisation Society encourages interested individuals to RSVP for the sessions via the Eventbrite links below.
The information sessions will be held from 5:30 to 8:00pm across four locations:
- Tocumwal – Monday, August 4
- Wagga – Tuesday, August 5
- Bathurst – Wednesday, August 6
- Queanbeyan – Thursday 7 August
