It was an active weekend for emergency services in the Snowy Mountains, as various agencies responded to four seperate incidents on our region’s roads from Friday, July 4, through to Sunday, July 6.
Friday, July 4, at 2:12pm emergency services were alerted to a two vehicle crash on Krawarree Rd, Snowball, where both cars burst into flames after a head-on collision.

According to NSW Police, a Hyundai station wagon driven by a 47 year-old man with five occupants – three children aged between 11 and 17 received minor injuries after crashing into a Mitsubishi Triton driven by a 32 year-old man, who was not injured.
A spokesperson for NSW Police said, “Inquiries into the Snowball crash continue.”

Inspector Langdon Gould from the NSW Rural Fire Service Snowy Monaro District (NSW RFS SMD) said, “RFS Crews from Numeralla, Cooma, and Lake George, responded with police, alongside Fire and Rescue NSW and ambulance to the scene.
“Both vehicles were on fire, but no person’s trapped in the vehicle and and there was some minor injuries sustained by some occupants of the vehicles. They were transported to Cooma hospital by ambulance.”
Later that day, on the Snowy River Way, Beloka, Friday, July 4, at 5:45pm a privately owned bus towing a trailer which contained a Suzuki SUV crashed when the trailer hit a guard rail and caused the bus to overturn.
A spokesperson for NSW Police shared, “The 64 year-old male driver was not injured in the single vehicle incident.”
In a seperate incident, at 9:27pm on Saturday, Juy 5, local RFS received reports of a single vehicle crash on Kalkite Road, Kalkite, in which the driver was injured an airlifted by ambulance to hospital.
A spokesperson for NSW Police said, “A 19 Year-old male driver and single occupant suffered fractures to his arms after a white Subaru sedan left the roadway on Kalkite Road. Inquiries into the crash continue.”

The following day, Sunday, July 6, at 2:54pm crews from local RFS alongside Fire Rescue NSW responded to reports of a car on fire on Church Road, Maffra, following a lightning strike that hit a car.
Inspector Gould from NSW RFS SMD said, “Upon arrival, crews found a vehicle involved in fire, which was the result of being struck by lightning.”
“The occupant of the vehicle had managed to exit the vehicle following the lightning strike and subsequent commencement of fire. Crews were able to extinguish the fire.”
