Cooma’s Miranda McGufficke Shines at 2025 Young Judges National Finals

Cooma’s Miranda McGufficke, a young and promising judge tasted sweet success in the National Finals of the 2025 Agricultural Shows Australia (ASA) Young Judges and Paraders Championships. Held at the Royal Adelaide Show during September, McGufficke took out first place and national honours in the highly competitive Meat Breed Sheep category. Notably, she also claimed the runner-up position in the Merino Fleece Judges competition.

Competing against five other top young judges from across Australia, aged between 15 and 25 in the Meat Breed Sheep category, McGufficke was tasked with evaluating White Suffolk ewes and Border Leicester rams. The competition assessed not just the structure, muscle development, and fleece quality of the animals, but also the participants’ accuracy, comparative skills, and presentation capabilities.

Reflecting on her recent accomplishment, McGufficke shared, “This award signifies the hard work that’s been put in, not just by me, but by a lot of people who have supported me to get here.”

Her involvement in the competition wasn’t solely about sheep judging. As McGufficke pointed out, “It’s more than just judging animals and learning about ag; it’s the personal development and the opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself, that’s the main thing that I’ve gotten from this competition,” as reported by Sheep Central.

The ASA National Finals offer recognition in various categories, including Beef Cattle, Poultry, and Grain Young Judges competitions, with industry leaders praising the event’s role in nurturing future judges.
