Cooma: Search Underway for Escapee

Police are appealing for assistance from the public to find an inmate who allegedly escaped from a correctional facility in Cooma. Dillon Mitcherson, aged 28, was last seen at the facility about 2.30pm today (Tuesday July 15, 2025).

Officers attached to Monaro Police District were notified and have been conducting inquiries to locate him.

Dillon is described as being of Caucasian appearance, of medium build, 175 to 180cm tall, with short brown hair.

Last seen wearing a green shirt and green pants. Police believe he may be in possession of what is believed to be a shiv.

Anyone who sees Dillon is urged not to approach him but to contact Triple Zero (000) immediately.

A man who allegedly escaped from a Cooma correctional facility has been charged after a search in the state’s south overnight. About 4.30pm yesterday (Tuesday, July 15, 2025), police were called to a correctional facility in Cooma, following reports of an escapee.

Officers attached to Monaro Police District were notified and – with assistance from the Dog Unit – immediately began conducting inquiries to locate a 28-year-old man.

Following extensive investigations, the man was arrested at a service station on Sharp Street, Cooma, about 12.30am today (Wednesday 16 July 2025).

He was taken to Cooma Police Station where he was charged with inmate escape/attempt to escape form lawful custody and goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen not motor vehicle.

The man was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Local Court 3 today.
