Jindabyne Rugby Union Club (JRUC) celebrated a blistering round of rugby at JJ Connors Oval yesterday, hosting the Yass Rams and Ewes in their latest fixtures for the 2025 season, with both the Miss Piggies and the Bushpigs securing crucial wins. The Miss Piggies dominated the field against the Yass Ewes with a commanding 44-7 victory, cementing their undefeated status this season. Meanwhile, the Bushpigs bounced back defeating the Yass Rams with a hard-fought 27-17 victory.

Captain Billy Small of the JRUC Bushpigs expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance. “It feels very nice to get back in the winners circle with a game that was quite back and forth,” Small commented. “Definitely happy how the boys played and stuck to it for the full 80 minutes.”
Highlighting key performances, Small added, “Patrick Killin really set the tone, chased everything, took on everyone with his running game and ran a nice line off a pass and got himself a meat pie.”

The match saw a tightly contested first half, with both teams entering halftime on equal terms. However, the Bushpigs surged ahead in the second half through an early try and a penalty goal. Despite a late comeback attempt by Yass, the Bushpigs’ solid defence, even when temporarily reduced to 14 men, ensured their victory.

Equally impressive were the JRUC Miss Piggies, whose captain, Montana Hawkins, was thrilled with the team’s continued success. “It’s absolutely fantastic. We’re proud to keep the momentum going — it really shows how all the hard work and training is paying off,” she said. The Miss Piggies’ scoring was spearheaded by standout performances, including Bernie Lai, Eden Klemm, and Tils Grainger, each scoring two tries, with Grainger also earning Players’ Player honours.

Discussing the dynamic match, Hawkins noted, “We came out with high energy and intensity and never let up. Played our game from start to finish — full of intent, passion, and grit.”

Both JRUC teams will take a well-deserved break with a BYE next weekend. Fans will then be eager for the next fixtures on Saturday, May 31, when the club returns to action against local rivals Cooma. An electrifying showdown is expected, marking the second Snowy Mountains derby of the season. Adding to the excitement, the event will be celebrated as Ladies Day, ensuring a festive atmosphere for supporters and players at JJ Connors Oval.
