An exuberant celebration marked the annual Ladies Day at Jindabyne Rugby Union Club (JRUC) yesterday, where the home teams delivered impressive victories in front of a spirited crowd. Facing the Cooma Rugby Union Football Club (CRUFC), both the women’s and men’s teams sealed thrilling wins in the much-anticipated clashes between Snowy Mountains teams.

In the ACT Women’s 10s, the Miss Piggies claimed a tight 44-29 victory against the Devil’s Angels. Team captain Montana Hawkins expressed her pride in the team’s performance, highlighting the culmination of dedication and teamwork. “We are absolutely ecstatic – there were even a few tears shed. It’s an incredible feeling knowing the hard work we’ve been putting in is really paying off. I’m so proud of every single woman on our team. They put their bodies on the line and played with so much heart,” Hawkins shared.

Hawkins shared a bit about the significance of Ladies Day, emphasising the event as a celebration for all women connected to the club. “It’s a celebration of all the women who make JRUC such a strong, supportive club. Being Ladies Day definitely gave us an extra push,” she added.

Following the Miss Piggies impressive win which see’s them equal first with the Devils Angels on the Country 10s ladder, the Bushpigs secured a narrow 23-21 victory over the Red Devils. The game saw an early lead by the Bushpigs, but they found themselves trailing 21-10 at halftime.

A strong second-half performance, marked by great tries and disciplined defence, allowed them to claw back and seal the win. Reflecting on the victory, Bushpigs’ captain Billy Small noted, “It definitely feels good to get the win, especially against Cooma. In the second half we managed to score two tries which made the game very close, and then it was a penalty goal that got us over the line.”
“Hopefully, the confidence carries over into the next games in the season.” Small credited improvements in their defensive line speed and pressure on opponents as crucial factors in their recent successful outings.

The JRUC Miss Piggies will next be in action when they travel to Canberra for the ACT Women’s 10s Gala Day on Saturday, June 14 in round 8, with scheduled matches against tough opponents in the Hall Bushrangers and Goulburn Dirty Reds. On the same weekend, the Bushpigs head to Taralga to tackle the Tigers in the 2nd Division South Coast Monaro rugby competition, aiming to maintain their momentum in season 2025.
