The Bombala Blue Heelers Rugby League Football Club faced off against strong competition over the weekend in Pambula during the Group 16 round 5 fixtures at the Dog Pound. The High Heelers League Tag side took on the Narooma She Devils, while the Blue Heelers reserve and first grade sides faced the Merimbula-Pambula Bulldogs (MPB).

Kicking off the day, the High Heelers delivered an impressive performance against the Narooma She Devils. They dominated the match from the start, securing a commanding 44-0 victory. Rachel Babidge and Zara Badewitz shone brightly, displaying their usual clinical prowess as key players in the team’s success this season.

Following this, the reserve grade team encountered a swift and well-drilled Merimbula-Pambula Bulldogs (MPB) side. Despite their best efforts, the Bombala reserves struggled to match the pace of their opponents, succumbing to a 32-6 defeat. The small size and speed of the MPB side proved too much for the Bombala men.

In the first-grade clash, the Bombala Blue Heelers sought to rally after a slow start against MPB. Although the team found their rhythm in the second half, outscoring their opponents, the first-half deficit proved insurmountable, culminating in a 34-16 loss.
Bailey Jones, the starting hooker for Bombala said, “Once again our start needs to be much better, but our completion rate and discipline is definitely trending up which is a good sign, we just need to put a complete performance together.”
“We face a top three side in Tathra next, which won’t be easy, but we are hungry for the two points this Saturday, and we need to leave it all out there on the field as we have a bye in round 7.” Jones also noted stellar performances from Liam Beazley and Daniel Douch despite the outcome.
Looking ahead, the Bombala Blue Heelers travel to Tathra to face a formidable Sea Eagles outfit at the Tathra Country Club on Saturday, May 31, with kick-off at 2:30pm. Eager to bounce back, the team hopes to deliver a complete performance and secures much-needed points before their upcoming bye round.
