Jindabyne Rugby Union Club (JRUC) experienced a mixed bag of results during their away matches yesterday, May 10, 2025 with the Miss Piggies tasting success at the ACT Women’s 10s Gala Day while the Bushpigs faced a challenging defeat against a now third placed ADFA side.

The Miss Piggies, JRUC’s women’s team, travelled to ANU North Oval with palpable determination and delivered an outstanding performance in Round 4 of the ACT Women’s 10s competition. They began the gala day with a forfeit win as the Canberra Royals were unable to field a team. However, it was in their second encounter that the Miss Piggies truly shone, narrowly defeating a formidable Uni North Owls team 20-17. The win places them at the pinnacle of the Country 10s ladder, demonstrating their growing presence as a premiership threat.

Miss Piggies Captain, Montana Hawkins, reflected on the day’s successes with evident pride. “The Miss Piggies had a fantastic gala day,” she noted. “Our confidence is clearly growing, with each game we’re looking sharper. The team isn’t just adapting — they’re enjoying their game, bringing intensity and a team-first mentality.” Try scorers such as Eden Klemm, who crossed the line twice, Bernie Lai, Jarrah Hibberd, and Jess Doust, were instrumental in securing this thrilling victory.
Conversely, the Bushpigs, JRUC’s men’s team, faced a testing fixture against ADFA at Dowsett Rugby Fields, succumbing to a 41-10 loss in Round 5 of the 2nd Division South Coast Monaro rugby competition.

Despite the defeat, Captain Billy Small highlighted some positives. “ADFA were definitely a strong side, but there were a few positives to take out of it. Jed Frank and Taylor Deer were dominant in tackles and breaking the advantage line,” Small commented. He stressed the need for a stronger start in upcoming matches, especially as they prepare to meet Yass.
“It’s taken us about 50 minutes to find our groove in games, so hopefully against Yass we find our groove straight away.”
Both teams now set their sights on their next fixtures at JJ Conor’s Oval on Saturday, May 17. The Miss Piggies will take on the Yass Ewes at 1.15 pm in round 5 of the ACT Women’s 10s, while the Bushpigs face the Yass Rams at 2:30 pm for Round 6 of their competition. Jindabyne will no doubt rally behind the teams as they strive to build on their efforts.
